Home Ice, Part One

So who goes to a hockey game here in America? Are they people like me, cheapskate closet sports fans? Why do they come out to the middle of nowhere to watch a bunch of nothings bash each other's brains out?

Were the people I found representative of hockey fans? Some were rabid hockey nuts, who claimed to see 400 games a year. There were families of players, curious onlookers, neighborhood retirees. Sanitation workers and cops. And lots of kids. They were, without exception, working people spending a few hours with cheap entertainment, a beer or two, and snacks.

Part one of a three part series investigating hockey culture.
